I spent all day Saturday hanging out with Lamont since I didn’t see him Thursday and Friday. We slept in, grabbed brunch at Vivians in Studio City, then headed over the hill to The Grove for a matinee. It was a fun day. But Sunday….. we headed our separate ways. I headed to Melrose with my Canon.

I wanted to snap a few photos with a real camera and not my iPhone. I also wanted to stop by the Melrose Trading Post. Strangely, I had never been. I usually head to The Rose Bowl when I feel like a flea market. I enjoyed this one for a change. It’s a little smaller, but that’s sort of a good thing. It’s also closer for me. Plus, it’s right in the middle of the city where there’s lots to do before or after shopping.

As if the flea market doesn’t provide enough shopping, Melrose is great even if you’re just window shopping. There are so many shops, big and small, high-end and affordable. Needless to say, the day was beautiful. Look at that sky!

I bought a couple of colorful rugs to layer in our living room. I got the inspiration from Bri Emery’s new dining room, designed by Emily Henderson. I never would have thought to layer these style rugs in a living room or dining room. Having been born to a Mexican mother, we had tons of these style blankets while I was growing up. I love the idea of incorporating them into my modern style apartment as an adult.

Although there’s several things we need for our apartment, big and small, I’ve been wanting new rugs and pillows for a long time. Different factors have stalled the process, like not knowing what to get with a cat who pukes only on rugs, not hardwood…?!

Now that I had a couple cool rugs to layer, I just had to get pillows too. So, after the flea market I headed to West Elm, which wasn’t far. I found two pillow covers on sale and I bought one large pillow sham. This is what you call economical pillow shopping. I repurposed three pillows I had at home. I’ve never seen a pillow sham that would look good on a sofa, but it really is cheaper than buying an oversized pillow.

I spent a total of $140 for the rugs, pillow covers and a small white planter. Not much at all, considering the fun little changes it made to our living room.
